As I continue my explorations in ancestral healing, I’m pleased to share resources I come across. I love this prayer. I hope it brings joy and comfort to you if you need it:

written by T.M. Lawson olo Obatala

I offer light and pour libation with respect and honor for all my ancestors whose names I know (say all the names that you know) and all the ones I don’t know to uplift and liberate their soul(s) in the name and light of the Almighty God. For it is through the love, the will, and the power of God that all souls are saved.
I offer prayer and protection by way of the Divine Creator for those ancestral souls that are in darkness, forgotten, or lost. Let the light I offer fade out the shadows of fear and guide them toward the arms of God.
I offer guidance to my ancestors by way of the Guardian Angels and Protective Spirits who by the power and order of God will assist them in their greater act of evolution. Let the light I offer be a Beacon of Hope and serve as an escape and protective shield from the shadows of despair.
I offer love, compassion, and comfort to those ancestral souls that are suffering and depressed. Let the light I offer lead them from discord and the miseries of their souls to the sanctuary of God and the joys of heavenly bliss.
I offer healing by way of the Supreme Being on all spiritual levels for those ancestors who were abused, afflicted, deceived, enslaved, hated, lonely, misguided, neglected, oppressed, pained, saddened, traumatized, and died tragically. Let the light I offer to their souls inspire clemency, liberation, faith, love and harmony from today onward.
I offer forgiveness to the ancestral souls that want to repent, sincerely, for the error of their ways in both realms of life and death. Let this light guide them to the truth, enlightenment and righteousness of God.
In addition, I forgive those ancestors that committed wrongs that have set their generational line “us that are living” in barrenness. And I forgive those ancestors whose past sins I’ve had to suffer as a result of their own naivety, ignorance and inferior habits and traits. Let the light I offer serve as a reminder for us in the living to acknowledge and learn not to make the same mistakes as the ones who lived before us.
In every way, I forgive those ancestors who need it most so that their souls will embrace in positive gratification a new and improved way of living in the spirit realm and that those souls will elevate in peace and awaken to eternal life as God promised.
In the name of God and through his mercy and blessings, let today be the beginning of a continual healing process for all my ancestral guides and release of all blocked and negative genetic energy patterns within the generational line steadily healing each family member including myself day-by-day. As you, the Ancestors heal on the other side, we ask that you forgive us as you have been forgiven and help us to heal with free flowing positive and progressive energy for the better well-being of all concerned.
In God’s name we pray and may the Light, Power, and Peace of God be with us always. And so it was spoken and so it will be!

Amen, Amen, Amen.

Ancestral Healing with Tarot

Enjoyed speaking at the London Tarot Festival yesterday. Kim did a great job organising the festival and there was a lively and excited buzz about the place, despite the lack of air conditioning which made the room extremely hot! I also bought myself a new deck – the Byzantine Tarot – and had a nice chat with Cilla Conway, the deck’s artist.

I was surprised and pleased that one of the attendees recorded my talk on her phone (why didn’t I think of that?!).

Here’s the recording for you to listen to – Contains a short background talk on using tarot for ancestral healing plus a short meditation to connect with your ancestors. There was a lot of background noise, but I hope that won’t spoil your enjoyment.

I’ve also attached the handout of the Ancestral Healing tarot spread and ritual for you to try at home.

Questions and feedback always welcome!

London Tarot Festival

I’m really pleased to be giving a free talk at the London Tarot Festival on Saturday 4th July. The Festival is being organised by the fabulous Kim Arnold, who also runs the UK Tarot Conference each year.

My talk is at 12.15pm on Ancestral Healing with Tarot: How to use tarot to talk to your ancestors and heal the energy of your family line.

I am also taking a group of Brighton tarot lovers up to the Festival on the train. Festival tickets are available on the door. If you want to join us, contact me.

The Fool

The Fool We start with the Fool. She is the beginning. The zero, the emptiness, the void.

She is the circle of infinity, at once everything and nothing.

The Fool stands at the threshold, just before the Big Bang – the point at which the universe is born. The Fool is hanging here in space, waiting for the journey to begin. (But there is no beginning and no end).

The Fool stands in this vast, creative emptiness. This is the empty womb, the frozen earth.

But life rumbles beneath the surface, waiting to burst forth.

The Fool says:

“When I appear, I remind you of your unmanifest potential and of the journeys that you are yet to conceive or begin. It is time for a new start, a new adventure.”

“You can do or be anything. Do not be too quick to judge the direction you should take, to decide what things should look like, how they should be. Enjoy the space, in which anything can happen. Soon, you will hear the call.”

“Then, take the leap. Take the first step and the next will be revealed as you walk along.”

What’s Your Tarot Type?

Whether you’re a beginner at tarot or more experienced, it helps to know ‘your tarot type’. According to Mary Greer’s book Tarot Mirrors, there are 4 ways to read (and to learn) tarot. Which one/s do you resonate with most closely?:

1. Analytic Type – Characterised by the suit of Swords. You enjoy analysing the cards very closely, looking at all the symbols and colours and thinking about what they represent. You are likely to have  memorised the traditional meanings of each card, including the reversals. You enjoy reading books about tarot – including the history of tarot, theories and different interpretations of the cards. You probably also enjoy reading about associated subjects e.g. mythology or numerology. You learn tarot best by reading, studying and talking about tarot.

2. Psychic Type – Characterised by the suit of Cups. You tend to read intuitively, going with the feelings that are triggered by the images on the cards. You can glance at the cards quickly and get an impression of what they mean and the message you want to give to your client. You also pick things up energetically from the clients themselves, and often feel drawn to making predictions. You learn best by developing your intuition, taking time to tune in to your client before you lay out the cards, looking at the cards briefly and then speaking out loud / writing about what they mean.

3. Therapeutic Type  – Characterised by the suit of Wands. Your reading style is similar to that of a counsellor or life coach. You see the cards as a tool for personal growth and enjoy helping your client discover herself, set goals and identify options. You tend to draw your client into the reading, encouraging her to talk about her current situation, look at the cards for herself and come up with her own meanings. You ask a lot of questions, to make sure you have covered all aspects of the situation and all opportunities for growth. You learn best by knowing the client’s question before you begin reading for them, understanding the ‘actions’ associated with each card, and bringing in other therapeutic models and techniques.

4. Magical Type – Characterised by the suit of Pentacles. You believe that tarot has a magical aspect, and you aim to help your client to realise her own magical power to manifest what she wants in her life. You can see the transformative opportunities in each card e.g. you probably love Death and The Tower because they hold the potential for sweeping change and new beginnings. You enjoy coming up with positive affirmations for each card, and using the cards for daily magical practice e.g. placing them on your altar, or using them in spell work. You learn best by creating rituals around your tarot practice e.g. cleansing and blessing your cards, laying out magical spreads and mandalas that represent what you or your client wants to create, and bringing in your esoteric knowledge.

I try and run courses that meet the needs of all 4 types. If there’s something you’d particularly like me to cover, to help you learn and improve, please let me know.

How to be Intuitive

Yin/Yang is a basic concept of Chinese philosophy, and it helyinyangps us to understand how to develop our intuition, and how to make it useful in our lives.

Yin/Yang is a duality; Yin and Yang are opposites, but they cannot exist without each other. Yin is associated with the moon, the shadows, receptivity, looking inwards. Yang is associated with the sun, the light, activity, looking outwards. Yin and Yang have become linked to femininity and masculinity respectively.

Intuition is a ‘Yin’ quality. It’s not something you ‘do’, it’s something you receive. Accessing your intuition means getting quiet and focusing inwards (towards your feelings, your body, your dreams…) rather than outwards towards the world.

Also, intuition comes to you via the right side of your brain. This is the creative, imaginative side that is  associated with images, dreams,  emotions, and the unconscious.

To develop your intuition you have to develop the right side of your HPbrain and learn to bypass the left side – the part associated with logic, rationality, intellect, order, language. Meditation is excellent, as is any creative activity as it gets you into a dreamy, light trance state.

You do not need to strive to be intuitive, you just need to still your mind, settle into yourself and see what comes.

You need to be the High Priestess!

Then, to make intuition useful in your life you need to act on your intuitive magicianguidance. You need to step into Yang energy. You need to turn your focus to the outer world; to set goals, identify steps and take action.

You need to be The Magician!

Remember, one cannot exist without the other.
